Llorca in between.

I make things and do stuff.

I grew up in Arecibo, Puerto Rico and went to the College for Creative Studies in Detroit, MI to study art. Now I live in Missouri- a land too far from the ocean or mountains with too many cloudy days and nights.

I go to the desert to look at the stars when I can. I make gadgets and experiments when I can't. And when I can't do that, I make a coffee and listen to music from Piazolla or Di Meola among others. I used to whistle a tune when I was a kid and it drove my mother crazy. One day, I was driving home from work (the graveyard shift at the power plant) and I heard it on the public radio station. It was the same tune and played by Al Di Meola. I had to go find it. The CD was called Heart of the Immigrants. I figured out that he was playing music composed by a man named Astor Piazolla.I bought every Di Meola CD I could. I went to see him play at the Grand Emporium when he released the Orange and Blue album.

Astor PiazollaSo then my quest was to find the music of Piazolla. I found Tango:Zero Hour and have collected every bit and piece of Piazolla I could find since then. He was hard to find when I started. Then his music showed up in soundtracks for movies like 12 Monkeys. Now he seems to be pretty popular, especially among jazz musicians.

Piazolla led me to other musicians like Dino Saluzzi. Caribbean roots connected me to Paquito D'Rivera, Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Charlie Sepulveda, Cachao and others. I found jazz with Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Dave Brubeck, Chick Corea, Gary Mulligan, etc. the list is long and my collection has grown over the years.

arecibo observatoryArecibo is home to the the world's largest radio telescope, the Arecibo Observatory. I am sure you have seen it in a movie or two. The road to the telescope goes right by my house.
